CONNECTING NEUROANATOMY TO YOUR CVA TREATMENT PLANNING

  • Video guidance, demonstrations and a unique ortho lab.
  • Gain new outcome measures and more organized exam approaches.
  • Improve skills to interpret neurological findings and align with interventions.

Strengthen your clinical expertise in stroke rehabilitation with this two-day, intermediate-level, in-person course. Assess, plan, and progress treatment across all phases of recovery β€” from acute stabilization to management of chronic issues. Explore current CVA research / literature and enhance your toolkit with practical strategies for managing gait and mobility issues, upper extremity dysfunction, and cerebellar involvement.

Day 1: Refine exam and treatment planning for complex stroke presentations. Apply the latest evidence-based practices, integrating neuroplasticity and motor learning principles to elevate clinical decision-making.

Day 2: Address challenging secondary movement system deficits β€” including apraxia, neglect, pusher syndrome, and sensory impairments β€” through problem-solving and lab-based orthopedic practice tailored to stroke patients.

Course Objectives:

1. Explain early stroke management and therapy implications

2. Describe potential patient presentations based on the anatomical location of a stroke.

3. Apply current concepts of neuroplasticity and motor learning to treatment selection.

4. Apply movement theory to maximize treatment of gait and movement dysfunction.

5. Describe evidence-based treatment techniques for individuals with CVA who demonstrate:

Pusher Syndrome | Neglect | Apraxia | Upper extremity dysfunction | Cerebellar dysfunction | Orthopedic dysfunction

6. Select (3) outcome measures validated for individuals with CVA.
