Introduction to Leatherwork Dog Collar 1 day workshop (6 hours including lunch break)

Beginners and experienced are welcome.

During this hands-on workshop, you will explore foundational skills of traditional leathercraft as you hand-craft your very own project to walk away with.

The techniques involved are very easy to grasp and a range of skills can be mastered in one day.

Skills include:

• Preparation and completion of a leather article – dog collar or waist belt.

• How to prepare veg-tanned English bridle leather

• Demonstration of cutting techniques

• Skiving, staining, creasing and stitch marking

• Hand stitching using correct tools and materials

This class is a good introduction to the basics required before moving on to the bridle class.

Plus a variety of modern knowledge and techniques that can add another dimension to your projects.

All tool usage, materials, and refreshments will be provided. Lunch is available on the day - select the lunch add-on when booking.

This one-day workshop will set you up with the knowledge and skills to continue your endeavours in your own home and develop your own flavour over time.

You just need to bring along your inquisitive self and maybe a notebook to jot down some of the finer details.

Alison Rosoman-Berton trained at the renowned Cordwainers College in the UK and obtained her City in Guilds in Rural Saddlery. She also qualified as a British Veterinary Nurse in 1983. For the last three years, Alison has been volunteering with Animal Aid Abroad in Indonesia, repairing tack and educating the locals on looking after both their saddlery and harness items and their horses.

Since arriving in Australia in 1985 she has made saddlery items for the NSW Mounted Police, numerous dog muzzles for industry and individual clients, protected dog harnesses as well as the occasional rat harness! Alison only uses traditional methods .
