Industrial Relics and Wartime Secrets: Woodlands Factory Tour

This Woodlands factory tour takes you into the former Shell lubricant blending plant in Woodlands, where vintage machinery, production rooms, and old structures still stand as reminders of Singapore’s industrial growth.

As part of our Woodlands heritage tour, you will also see a former mental hospital and trace the footsteps of Vietnamese refugees who escaped the war at the grounds of the former Hawkins Road Refugee Camp, Singapore’s first and only refugee camp. As we venture further, we uncover a hidden World War II air raid shelter, accessible only by ladder, offering a rare glimpse into Singapore’s wartime landscape.

• From Woodlands Bus Interchange, just below Woodlands MRT
• Board Bus 903
• Alight at Blk 206, Stop ID: 46159
• Walk through HDB blocks to pinned location (est 4 mins)

By Taxi

• Alight at the nearest HDB, Block 215, S730215
• Walk past the fitness corner to the pinned location (est 1 min)

Driving

• Park at the carpark of Block 218 (nearest to the gantry), S730215
• Walk past the fitness corner to the pinned location (est 2 min)
• For the second location, those driving can park at Dahan Road

Things to bring

• Comfortable shoes suitable for walking through forested areas
• Long sleeved pants
• Flashlight for enhanced visibility inside the air raid shelter
• Insect repellent
• Be prepared for a moderate level of physical activity, including walking and climbing a ladder
• As you will be taking a public bus between the 2 locations, an EZ-Link/bank card is required
