About This Event

Make your mark! Try expressive printmaking without a press: create a monotype drawing using an inked plate, washi, and your imagination!

Join artist/instructor Helen McCusker for a creative day exploring the process of making trace monotypes — a one-off printing process done without a press. Similar to making carbon copies, a monotype drawing is made using an inked plate and printmaking paper, either creating an original drawing or tracing an existing image.

Using a variety of Japanese papers (washi) you will discover how different papers respond to the ink and your mark making. Your mark-making tools can be used to influence the outcome and the prints can be quite exciting and ephemeral.

Trace monotype allows for an immediate expressive image, or one that is more carefully "traced" from an image that you are looking to explore in new ways.
All paper, other materials, and tools will be provided .

Participants are asked to bring the following:

  • a notebook and pen
  • an apron, or dress to get messy
  • disposible gloves (optional)
  • photocopied image, or images (images will also be provided)
  • a folder to carry home completed work (at least 9 x 12")
  • your lunch!

This workshop is beginnner friendly! But also perfect for the experienced printmaker curious to explore the relationship between washi and ink.

Ticket price includes the workshop fee of $130.00, plus Eventbrite fees and HST for a total of $157.95
