The Creep Tunnels - Wallasey, Liverpool - Paranormal Event/Ghost Hunt 16+

This event is open to persons over the age of 16 however all 16-17 year olds must be accompanied by a responsible adult eg. parent, guardian, carer or older family member.

The "Creep Tunnels" of Wallasey, specifically those beneath New Brighton Palace, possess a history spanning over 200 years and are believed to have originated as a natural cave system used by notorious 17th and 18th-century smugglers. These clandestine passages allowed local smugglers to move plundered goods from the River Mersey away from the prying eyes of excise men.

In 1942, during World War II, the tunnels were repurposed by the Ministry of Defence as a top-secret munitions factory where more than 200 women worked around the clock to manufacture ammunition. During this era, the site also served as a critical air raid shelter and a base for local fire watchers.

Following the war, the subterranean network transitioned into a centerpiece of Wirral nightlife, famously housing the Creep Inn nightclub, which took its name from the eerie atmosphere of its underground setting. After the club's closure, the tunnels were abandoned for over two decades, leaving behind decaying machinery and original WWII equipment that reportedly remain in place today.

The tunnels are reputedly one of the most haunted locations in the region, often cited as the final resting place for the souls of passengers from a ship that sank in the Mersey in 1793. According to legend, smugglers transported the bodies of the drowned to these tunnels while they looted the wreckage, and many believe those spirits remain trapped in the dark. Visitors frequently report encounters with a Grey Lady who wanders the passages, as well as the sounds of disembodied banging attributed to an "angry old smuggler" searching for his lost treasure.
