About This Event
Jinky's Journey
Celtic FC Foundation are delighted to announce that we are partnering with MND Scotland, to mark the 20th anniversary of the sad passing of Celtic legend, Jimmy Johnstone to motor neuron disease (MND).
In tribute to the shirt number he proudly wore for the Hoops, ‘Jinky’s Journey’ will see supporters follow a 7-mile route from the Jimmy Johnstone Memorial Garden in Viewpark to his statue outside Celtic Park, on Bank Holiday Monday, May 4, 2026.
We’d love you to join us on this walk from Jinky’s hometown to Paradise, as we celebrate the life of the man who supporters voted the Greatest Ever Celt and who bravely faced his own MND journey, before tragically passing away on March 13, 2006.
The minimum age to participate is 10 years-old (as of the event date) and participants aged 10-15 must have written consent to participate and be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian/responsible adult, who must also take part in the event.
Registration is now open and the cost to enter is £20 for those aged 16 and over, or £15 for those aged 10-15. Please ensure you read the Terms and Conditions before completing the process.
In addition to a fundraising pack, participants will also receive an official ‘Jinky’s Journey’ t-shirt on the day, as well as snacks/refreshments during the event.
All we ask is that you raise a minimum fundraising target – over and above the registration fee - of £135 for those aged 16 and over and £35 for those aged 10-15 to take part.
The net proceeds from this event will be split equally between Celtic FC Foundation and MND Scotland.
Celtic FC Foundation is the charitable arm of the Football Club. At the heart of all of the Foundation’s work is a mission to identify and engage with the most vulnerable and marginalised groups by providing support and opportunities. Our work strives to challenge poverty and promote inclusion, within our most disadvantaged communities. Proceeds raised from Jinky’s Journey will be devoted to our Lions Lunch Breaks projects, providing support for those living with dementia and their carers.
Motor neuron disease is a rapidly progressing terminal condition for which there is currently no cure or meaningful treatment and the average life expectancy is just 18 months from diagnosis. The disease causes people to lose the ability to eat, move, speak and, eventually, breathe unaided. There are currently around 480 people living with MND in Scotland with 200 new diagnosis each year. MND Scotland is the only charity that provides direct support to people with MND and their families in Scotland, whilst also funding vital MND research.
Thank you for your support
