About This Event

Join the Hong Kong IOSH Community to explore Design for Safety (Dfs): Turning Design Intent into On-site Safety Reality

Design for Safety is widely recognised under Hong Kong’s construction safety framework, yet many projects struggle to turn DfS principles in drawings, specifications, and risk registers into real frontline safety performance. This seminar focuses on closing that gap through experience based sharing rather than theory.

Using real project examples and on site lessons learned, the session will examine how early design decisions influence construction risk, work sequencing, temporary works, and on site safety. Participants will explore where DfS commonly falls short and how designers, contractors, and safety practitioners can work together to make DfS genuinely effective in local construction environments.

The seminar will be led by Mr Andy Lo, CFIOSH, a highly experienced occupational safety and health professional with over 40 years of experience on major infrastructure and railway projects. A retired Senior Construction Safety Advisor of MTRC, Andy is well known for his practical, case driven approach, drawing on real site conditions, incidents, and near miss lessons.

A short introductory session will also introduce the Design for Safety Sub-committee of the IOSH Hong Kong Community, outlining its role and how members can get involved in promoting DfS within the local construction industry.
