Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) – ENGLISH

What Are GI-BMPs?

Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMPs) teach environmentally responsible landscaping practices that help protect Florida’s water resources and natural environment.

This science-based training is provided by UF/IFAS Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and is designed for Green Industry professionals.

Is GI-BMP Training Required?

Yes. Florida law requires all commercial fertilizer applicators to hold a Limited Urban Commercial Fertilizer Applicator License.

To obtain this license, you must:

• Attend a GI-BMP class and pass the exam with a minimum score of 75%
• You will receive a GI-BMP Certificate of Training from UF/IFAS.
• Apply through FDACS by:
• Selecting “New Urban Landscape Commercial Fertilizer”
• Uploading your GI-BMP Certificate
• Paying the $25 fee for a 4-year license

License renewal requires 2 Core CEUs + 2 LUF CEUs every 4 years.

• General Standards Core (487 or 482) – 2
• Commercial Lawn & Ornamental (LO) – 2
• Limited Lawn & Ornamental (LLO) – 2
• Limited Urban Fertilizer (LUF) – 2
• Ornamental & Turf – 2
• Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance (LCLM) – 2
• Private Applicator – 2

Is There a Pre-Requisite?

No pre-requisite is required.
However, studying ahead of time is strongly recommended.
