A single screening at the 4th DIFF Short Film Showcase will be legally required to pause its projector for a 5-minute intermission, not for technical reasons, but because an audience member is sworn in as a temporary juror to vote on a live, on-stage legal dispute between two competing filmmakers over a stolen concept. This integration of real-time arbitration into a curated film program, where the audience becomes a literal jury, blurs the line between spectator and participant. The event is further distinguished by the fact that the winning filmmaker must then use that same 5-minute break to re-edit their short's ending based on the jury's verdict, screening the revised cut immediately after the intermission.
