About this event: This is a one-class workshop hosted by the Central Florida Livestock Agents Group (CFLAG), that will start from 9 am to 12 pm.

Varroa destructor remains one of the greatest threats to honey bee colonies, but with proper monitoring and management, beekeepers can keep their hives healthy and thriving. This essential workshop will equip you with the knowledge and skills to detect and control these parasitic mites before they devastate your colony.

We'll cover the biology and lifecycle of varroa destructor, helping you understand why these tiny mites pack such a destructive punch. You'll learn multiple monitoring techniques – from sugar rolls to alcohol washes – so you can accurately assess mite loads in your own hives. We'll also discuss integrated pest management approaches and various control methods, helping you develop a sustainable strategy that fits your beekeeping philosophy.

This workshop is crucial for any beekeeper committed to maintaining strong, healthy colonies. You'll gain the confidence to monitor regularly and intervene effectively when needed.

Recommended for beekeepers of all experience levels who want to protect their investment and keep their bees thriving year-round.

This class will be taught live by JK Yarborough, in Orange County at the UF/IFAS Extension Office, located at 6021 S. Conway Rd, Orlando, FL 32812.

Cost is $35.00 per person.
