Get ready to step into a world of cultural richness and vibrant heritage at Vizcaya Late: Little Bahamas! Vizcaya Museum and Gardens transforms into a lively celebration of the Bahamian spirit, set in the picturesque backdrop of Miami's Biscayne Bay.

This event, a blend of historical exploration and cultural festivity, is co-curated with descendants of Black Grove settlers, the G.W. Carver Alumni Association, and leaders from Little Bahamas’ 100+ year-old churches—Macedonia, St. Paul, Christ Episcopal, and St. James—bringing history to life through shared stories, community, and celebration.

Event Highlights:

  • Video Screening: Watch Little Bahamas church leaders from Macedonia, St. Paul, Christ Episcopal, and St. James—each over 100 years old—as they share historical knowledge, personal stories, and reflections on the vital role these churches have played as community gathering spaces for dialogue, connection, and progress.
  • Ode to the Grove: Experience Ode to the Grove, the 2025 Studio Vizcaya artwork, created in dialogue with the themes of Coconut Grove in the past and present, highlighting how community memories, heritage, and change shape the neighborhood’s story.
  • Enjoy sounds that celebrate the creativity and cultural heritage of Little Bahamas, including live music by JAM Productions and a performance by Junkanoo Miami.

Presentations by G.W. Carver Elementary Students, including:

  • Explore the G.W. Carver Elementary History Wall: Hear directly from students as they share the stories and research behind the history wall.
  • Caribbean Dance Performance: Enjoy a vibrant Caribbean dance showcase by the Carver Dazzlers.

Connect with Artists:

  • Connect with artist and photographer Nicole Combeau for a personalized portrait session. Participants are encouraged to wear clothing that holds personal meaning or reflects their memory, culture, or heritage.
  • Get creative with artist Vanya Allen as you make bright Yellow Elder flowers—the national flower of The Bahamas!
