This 1-day intensive Pain Management Ultrasound Training Course presents the most common orthopedic indications for which image-guided (ultrasound) injections can be used, including acute, subacute, and chronic conditions.

During this specialty course, you will become proficient in performing various injections for large joints (shoulder, hip, and knee), as well as the sacroiliac joint and focused small joints.

• Review of MSK image technologies
• General principles of musculoskeletal sonography

9:45AM–10:30AM

• Review of various techniques for image guidance using ultrasound for muscles and tendons for medium and large joints
• General instruction for musculoskeletal sonography, including irregular pathologies
• Medical indications for treatment for soft tissue, joints, cartilage, ischemic nerve damage, and other specialty pain applications

• Requirements and general protocols for performing musculoskeletal sonography for soft tissue injection
• Review of high-frequency transducers, contralateral comparison, and advanced features such as tissue harmonics and 3-D imaging
• Review compression technique for possible composition of underlying structures or defects

• Introduction to performing joint injections under ultrasound for large and small bursa areas and indications for treatment
• Review of equipment selection for large as well as small/medium size bursa structures
• Review of medications and biologics used in the treatment of joints, as well as pre- and post-treatment guidelines
• Discussion on the efficacy of various modalities and other considerations for use of therapies, including intake forms, consents, and follow-up procedures

• Hands-On Training using MSK ultrasound transducers for various anatomical locations, including transducer placement and other scanning considerations
• Use of anatomical models for palpation and needle placement for trigger points and joint injections to simulate and reproduce clinical experience in these injections
• This hands-on training allows attendees to develop various techniques and confirm other standard of care considerations for patients
