Talkies

About This Event

At San Francisco’s tiny, candlelit Lost Church, SF Sketchfest’s "Talkies" stripped comedy back to its rawest form: performers delivered their material live to a silent film reel, syncing jokes to flickering black-and-white images in a dark room that held fewer than 100 people. The event’s magic came from the tension between the century-old, wordless visuals and the modern, rapid-fire punchlines, forcing comedians to improvise their timing on the fly. It was a rare, low-tech gamble that turned the usual stand-up dynamic into a collaborative, high-wire act between performer and ghostly celluloid.
