About This Event

A creative beginner sewing class where you’ll turn old fabrics into something new, a one-of-a-kind handmade laptop/ ipad case to take home!

This 3-hour in-person workshop is a welcoming space for beginners to slow down, get creative, and connect through the mindful practice of sewing. Centered around creativity and sustainability, the session will be a hands-on sewing workshop guided by Apple of My Eye, a Toronto-based maker who uses repurposed materials to inspire confidence and joy in the process of making.

Ever looked at an old pair of pants that no longer fit, a quilt, or a pillowcase and thought, “This could be something more”?

Participants will learn foundational sewing skills, including how to set up a sewing machine, draft and cut a pattern, sew straight seams, quilting patterns, and finish their project with a professional-looking closure. Using thrifted and scrap fabrics, each guest will create their own upcycled laptop or ipad case, merging creativity with sustainability.

By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a finished, tech protector that’s uniquely theirs, along with the confidence and inspiration to continue exploring sewing at home.

All machines, tools, and materials are provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fabric or textile piece with a story, like an old blanket or sweater to repurpose into something new. No experience necessary.

Disclaimer: Like all craft activities we flag please use caution as we will be working with sewing needles, scissors and other sharp materials.

Apple of My Eye was founded as a passion project after discovering the joy of sewing and the art of repurposing. Their mission is to show that sewing doesn’t have to be intimidating or costly, by harnessing creativity and using scrap materials, anyone can start sewing with confidence and ease.
