Seonaid Aitken is an award-winning violinist, vocalist, composer/orchestrator and BBC broadcaster from Fife. As one of the rare few female improvising violinists in the UK influenced by the great Stéphane Grappelli, she performs with her Gypsy Jazz band Rose Room, tutors regularly at the Grappelli-Django Camp in The Netherlands and tours her ‘Grappelli & Ella’ duo show across Scotland. Seonaid was awarded ‘Best Vocalist’ twice at the Scottish Jazz Awards following her highly acclaimed Ella Fitzgerald centenary big band show, and has played with Michael Buble, Burt Bacharach, Martin Taylor MBE, Deacon Blue, Eddi Reader and Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ UK tour as well as with the Orchestra of Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera. Commissions include the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival and her latest solo album ‘Chasing Sakura’ was long-listed for the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award.
