Rooted in Resilience: Black Families Healing from Domestic Violence

This interactive workshop, led by Dr. Valerie Taylor, uses a culturally grounded and trauma-centered care approach to honor the strength, courage, and resilience of Black families impacted by domestic violence. Drawing from shared history, culture, and collective care, this workshop explores pathways toward safety and healing beyond intergenerational trauma. Participants will gain meaningful insight, grounding tools, and encouragement to support their personal and collective healing.

Who should attend? This lunch-and-learn is ideal for professionals, community partners, survivors, and survivor family members.

About the Speaker: Dr. Valerie Taylor , E.D, APR, is an Assistant Professor, Faculty in Residence, Interdisciplinary Studies at University of Nevada, Las Vegas teaching African American Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, Multicultural Education courses, is a certified trauma informed yoga instructor and mental health counselor. She has held several leadership positions in national and local non-profits, colleges and government agencies leading campaigns supporting Black cultural spaces, equitable education, civic engagement, environmental justice, sexual assault prevention, and women’s health. As an educator, activist, volunteer, and healer she passionately works on global social justice, celebrating the arts and protecting Mother Earth from the lectern to the streets.
