Roads & Kingdoms Magazine Launch

Co-founders Nathan Thornburgh and Matt Goulding in conversation for Roads & Kingdoms, moderated by Evan Kleiman, host of KCRW's Good Food.

Roads & Kingdoms is the annual print magazine from Roads & Kingdoms with in-depth storytelling from writers, artists, and photographers around the world.

In the pages that follow, readers will find reporting from Gaza, Lagos, Rome, Tokyo, California, and Caracas. They'll find short fiction, photo essays, original illustrations, interviews, and reportage. Readers will also find “The R&K 50,” Roads & Kingdom's definitive, unranked global list of the restaurants that their favorite chefs, writers, and eaters think of as second homes, including contributions from Eric Ripert, René Redzepi, Palisa Anderson, Virgilio Martinez, Matty Matheson, and many, many more.

Roads & Kingdoms was launched in 2012 as a next-generation travel, food, and journalism platform. Together with investors and partners like the late Anthony Bourdain and their newest partner José Andrés, they have garnered some of the highest awards in the industry: National Magazine Award, a primetime Emmy, multiple James Beard awards.

In recent years, they have launched two new projects that aim to bring old-time readers and newfound fans deeper into the world of Roads & Kingdoms. Through The League of Travelers, they offer some of the world’s most connected small-group culinary journeys led by chefs, writers, producers, and raconteurs. And through R&K Insiders, they have extended their storytelling far beyond the bounds of this website—with a new print magazine, twice-weekly travel intel from our correspondents around the world, and a series of dinners built to directly challenge the threats facing the people that feed us.

Nathan Thornburgh (Co-founder/Publisher) is a former TIME Magazine senior editor and foreign correspondent who has reported everywhere from Russia to Myanmar to Iraq. Some of his favorite pieces he has edited for Roads & Kingdoms include Oliver Bullough’s ode to adjika and Supriya Nair’s elegiac World Cup essay. R&K’s League of Travelers is his latest attempt to marry travel, journalism and la dolce vita.

Matt Goulding (Co-founder/Publisher) is an award-winning writer and producer. His new documentary series Omnivore, created with chef René Redzepi, is now streaming on Apple TV+. His Eat This, Not That books sold over 10 million copies, and his R&K books with Anthony Bourdain’s imprint won numerous awards. He divides his time between the tapas bars of Barcelona and the barbecue pits of rural North Carolina.
