Reclaiming Our Social Lives: A Call For Solidarity Vs Big Tech.

This CAMRI event presents an alliance of digitally concerned thinkers, a panel of leading online harms campaigners, digital activists and academics united by the same pressing cause. Namely, to reclaim our social lives from the likes of Meta, TikTok and X and to create greater solidarity within our communities and the general public.

A timely demand is growing across all generations for bolder solutions to the numerous problems rippling out from commercial social media and AI tools, with the loudest voices coming from Gen Z who have grown up on these platforms. Despite the Australian social media ban for under 16s and a burgeoning investigation here in UK parliament, it’s questionable whether our governments are listening sufficiently to our concerns. Or whether our political leaders have the right intentions to create meaningful solutions in relation to how rapidly technological innovation outpaces regulation.
