Nova Scotia House: Charlie Porter and Princess Julia in Conversation

The first novel from writer, fashion critic and curator Charlie Porter—Nova Scotia House is a powerful, intense exploration of queer life, love, grief and community. Centring around Johnny Grant and his relationship with Jerry, more than 20 years his senior, Porter has created a compelling and compassionate, soulful and searing tale of queer past, present and future.

Charlie Porter is a writer, fashion critic and curator. He has written for the Financial Times, the Guardian, The New York Times, GQ, Luncheon, i-D and Fantastic Man, and has been described as one of the most influential fashion journalists of his time. Porter co-runs the London queer rave Chapter 10, and is a trustee of the Friends of Arnold Circus, where he is also a volunteer gardener. He lives in London.

Princess Julia is a DJ, writer and a pivotal figure in London’s queer counterculture and nightlife, regularly DJing at nights such as Adonis and Feel It. A muse and inspiration to many, Julia gave crucial insights to Charlie about life in the 80s and 90s as he wrote Nova Scotia House.
