I hope everybody had a nice festive break, we’re starting February by returning to the Manchester Central Library Performance Space for another round of our monthly international film screening series.

The rules are simple: we give you five films to vote from here, and you’ll find out what won at the screening.

Once you've placed your booking, you'll be able to choose from the drop down form, which film you'd like to watch.

This month our film choices cover morality, chaos, and cultural identity—stories that challenge conventions and explore the human condition across continents and decades.

This month’s contenders are:

Nazarin (1959, Mexico)
Luis Buñuel’s classic piercing drama follows a priest whose radical compassion collides with harsh realities when he forces himself into exile for an inescapable sin. A profound critique of faith, poverty, and hypocrisy, steeped in Buñuel’s signature surrealist undertones.

Jallikattu (2019, India)
A runaway bull sparks a frenzy in a remote village, plunging the modern world into primordial chaos. Lijo Jose Pellissery’s kinetic masterpiece is a visceral allegory of masculinity, greed, the thin veneer of civilisation and how quickly it can all fall apart.

Nine Queens (2000, Argentina)
Two low-tier con artists team up for day of scams in in Buenos Aires but when opportunity arises a bigger con begins to unfold, but who’s playing whom? Bielinsky’s taut thriller brims with twists, deception, and razor-sharp dialogue—a modern classic of Latin American cinema.

The Noose (1958, Poland)
A day in the life of a man battling alcoholism becomes a haunting portrait of despair and fleeting hope. Kawalerowicz’s stark realism and psychological depth cement this as a cornerstone of Polish cinema.

Rockers (1978, Jamaica)
A reggae drummer takes on Kingston’s music industry in this vibrant, street-level odyssey. Packed with iconic tracks and real-life musicians, Rockers is both a cultural time capsule and a joyous haunt through Kingston.
