Maritime Cyber Guild Meetup Q2 2026: What happens when cybersecurity fails?

In a world where cybersecurity is the new orange, functional safety is the new black!

Cybersecurity and ISA/IEC62443 are often depicted as the new bastions of security in OT and maritime; with increasingly complex offerings from ICS and IT vendors alike, promising to protect lives and systems. What happens when technologies meant to protect us, fail? And how do we ensure safety of lives at sea should the unthinkable happen?

Our next meetup will focus on Functional Safety, Alarm management, and asks whether we should rely on the watchkeeper to be the last barrier of safety, or whether there are reliable technical solutions. Which standards do we turn to when ISA/IEC62443 is insufficient?

Safety-focused industries have already adopted and implemented numerous standards and practices to protect not only lives, but also ensure operational reliability. Something the maritime industry is just catching up on in recent years.

Our speakers have extensive experience in cyber and functional safety, alarm management and analysis; and will bring to light some of the challenges the industry knows (and doesn't know) it's facing!

In addition, a presentation will also be held on network floods/storms, how they affect systems, and what can be done to prevent them. Network storms can cause significant disruptions on ICS networks, which may lead to undesirable events, cause alarm floods, and catastrophic events if the right protections are not present.
