Burden's Landing debuted in 2024 with a DIY 5-track EP, which led to a run of exciting performances around the DMV. Now, the band is celebrating their second release, a live album recorded at Cart Studios in Philadelphia. Ebbing between in-your-face alternative rock and tender, hypnotizing compositions, Burden’s Landing continues to showcase their unique sound.

Band leader Nayan Bhula celebrated 50yrs on planet earth in 2025.  Rather than slow down, the longtime DC mainstay is doubling down. Working an uphill battle is nothing new for Nayan
when have you seen a band led by a South Asian guy? Remember any year end best of lists, listing an artist, a rock band, fronted by an Indian dude? It’s hard to be seen as “cool”, when folks say you look like their "Dad's accountant or doctor" (actual after show quote)! But, he's spent decades in the local scene and touring, tearing down those stereotypes of rock n roll. He started with post-punk outfit GIST who released 3 full length albums and toured up and down the East Coast & Canada (even playing CBGB’s). During this time, without any labels wanting to take a chance, he and his bandmates started a small indie label, Red Stapler Records. Taking that DIY DC initiative, its mantra was- DYOT (Do Your Own Thing). The label helped release music not only from GIST, but countless other acts in the DMV, culminating in a local compilation called, “TPS Reports Vol.1.”  After GIST, he had a musical shift for a decade with the 8-piece orchestrated indie-folk-rock ensemble The NRIs, who released five EPs. Along the way, he’s shared bills with Rilo Kiley, Lungfish, Moneen, Travis Morrison (Dismemberment Plan), Juliana Hatfield, Laura Stevenson, Biz Markie, Bedmaker, Don Zientara, Khaira Arby, to name a few.

The latest musical incarnation sees Nayan fronting a band using his own name (not his idea!).  It leans into that DC post-punk, indie rock sound, also taking inspiration from an unwavering devotion to classic rock n roll, and the 80s New Wave & pop he grew up on. Bandmates have come and gone, so far 3 since the recording of the last record, and finding like minded musicians, has exponentially increased the band’s uncoolness. 4 dads, 6 kids, 1 divorce, 4 partners and a combined age north of 150!  But what you see, is NOT what you get.  The band is constantly surprising audiences with their high octane live shows, which echo shades of the DC punk bands they grew up watching, mixing in the dynamic songwriting & arranging of a Springsteen show (they even have the saxophone).

The band was keen on capturing that energy and made the trek to Baltimore to record at The Magpie Cage Recording Studio with the legendary J.Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines, etc..). It worked out to be a perfect match as the 6 new tracks go from high octane rock n roll to ballads with string arrangements.

Take a chance
pronounce the band name incorrectly, come see the receding hairlines, the dad bods
leave the show thinking, this is my favorite “new” band
and now thanks to J.Robbins you’ll be able to hear that anywhere.

New tracks dropping in early 2026!
