About This Event

CILIP's Rare Books and Special Collections Group and Bibliographic Standards Committee present this rare books cataloguing workshop.

Aimed at both general cataloguers wanting to learn more about rare books, and rare book specialists wanting to learn more about cataloguing, this 1-day workshop offers an introduction to rare book cataloguing standards and principles.Participants will work hands-on with items from the University of Edinburgh's Heritage Collections to learn how to navigate Descriptive Cataloguing of Rare Books (RDA Edition) (DCRMR), its relationship to other standards, and the skills required to create an accurate and well-formed rare book catalogue record, e.g. identifying editions, ideal copies vs. copy-specific details, transcription conventions, and basic descriptive bibliography.

The workshop will include discussion of cataloguing in MARC, but the skills involved can be applied in any type of cataloguing environment.
