About This Event
Join us for a fun, beginner-friendly skijoring day led by world-class athletes!
Curious about skijoring and ready to try it with your dog? This event is a great way to take your first steps into skijoring, with guidance from professionals, structure, and a relaxed atmosphere.
The day is led by Tessa Philippaerts, three-time world champion in canicross, and Lena Boysen Hillestad, 25 times World champion in sled dog sports, together with the Non-stop dogwear team and ambassadors. They will guide you through the basics, help with equipment setup, and share practical tips to make your first skijoring experience feel safe and enjoyable.
The lesson is hosted on the grounds of Hamar Trekkhundklubb and their beautiful tracks are used only by active dog lovers!
What to expect
🐕 Beginner-friendly from start to finish
This event is for people who are new to skijoring but already confident on cross-country skis.
🎿 A step-by-step introduction
You will start without dogs, with a short ski assessment to make sure everyone can stop and control speed safely. Once that’s done, it’s time to connect the dogs and try skijoring!
👥 Small groups and personal guidance
With a limited number of participants, everyone gets time on the skis! Each participant aims to complete the loop at least once.
🧭 A short, easy route
The flat 1.5 km loop is chosen to build confidence and keep things controlled and fun.
🦺 Equipment
Bring your own equipment, or use the demo kit provided by Non-stop dogwear. The team will help you fit the gear before you head out on the snow.
Skijoring equipment includes:
- Skijoring belt
- 2.8 meters bungee leash
- Pulling harness
- Booties & dog jacket (depending on the weather and your dog’s needs)
- Cross-country skis, boots, and poles
- Appropriate winter clothing
Non-stop dogwear can provide:
- Skijoring belt
- Pulling harness
- Skijoring line
- Booties
- Jackets
Ski rentals
If you need to rent skis, this can be arranged separately.
Hamar Trekkhundklubb and local options such as BUA Hamar may be able to help. Once you have signed up, we will share more details about what information is needed to support rentals.
🐾 Dog requirements
For a safe and fun experience for your dog, yourself, and all participants, we kindly ask everyone to follow the points below:
- One dog is brought per participant.
- Dogs are kept on a standard non-retractable lead at all times, unless actively skijoring with a bungee leash.
- Dogs are comfortable around other dogs and people in a group setting. “Needs space” markers can be provided, but handlers remain fully responsible for their dog’s behavior and safety.
- Handlers are able to manage their dog safely throughout the event.
- Dogs are over 12 months old, healthy, and fit for winter activity on the day of the event.
🅿️ Parking facility
Parking is available on site. A fee of 92 NOK applies and can be paid via Vipps. We recommend allowing a little extra time before the session to park and get ready.
