Firecracker Department started as a podcast to highlight women and non-binary creatives and has grown into a community with chapters in cities around the US and Canada. The podcast is hosted by FD founder and improv comedy legend Naomi Snieckus, the Los Angeles Comedy Cafe is produced and hosted by three pals who met through FD during the pandemic.
Our lineup this week includes:
Amanda Blake Davis: Amanda has written for Showtime’s Work in Progress and Cartoon Network’s Wabbit! You can catch her improvising around town with Heyday (@heydayimprov on Instagram)
Monique Madrid: Monique Madrid is a comedy writer and producer. A seasoned sketch writer and improviser, she performed with The Second City on Norwegian Cruise Lines, and as an emerging TV writer, wrote for DISNEY CHANNEL HOUSE PARTY. She's also the creator of several successful live comedy shows, including "2 Girls 1 Pup - the comedy show you can bring your dog to!" and "Bitch, I'll Cut You - the live late-night talk show where a guest gets an real haircut on stage." Check out her kid's podcast Time Traveling Tonya to go back in time with a Galapagos tortoise and learn about inspiring people from the past!
Mariel Sena: Mariel is a comedian, improviser, and clown who most enjoys making the audience their scene partner. They have studied performance in various forms from UCB, Groundlings, The Elysian, The Pack, and WGIS, and can be found performing improv with The Sitch and musical improv with their collective, Plush Pony. They are developing their one person show, Most Woke Woman, and producing Allison Dayne’s Edinburgh bound show, Confessions of a Sugar Baby.
Karla Espino: Karla Espino is a director, comedian, and video editor specializing in sketch comedy and content creating!
Hope Lagos: Hope made her Cannes debut during the pandemic with Diamond Game and her TV debut shortly after with Lifetime's Her Deadly Groom. From drama to comedy to punk rock princess (literally– you can check out LITTLE HOPEY, her just-for-fun punk rock project with her partner on Spotify), Hope is a passionate, hard-working actor who aspires to live up to her name with all she comes in contact with.
Janet Davison: Janet Davidson is an improviser, stand-up comic, and Faculty Member at The Second City Training Centre(LA). An alumnus of Vancouver TheatreSports League Mainstage.
And your hosts:
Emily Churchill is an actor, writer, and producer based in Los Angeles. She has been seen on Criminals Minds, Mr Mayor, 2 Broke Girls, Will and Grace and Reno 911 among others. You've heard her on Disney's Vampirina and as Gertie on Go Kid Go's podcast Time Traveling Tonya. She wrote and performed the one woman show "Where R U Greg?" at The Second City Hollywood and The Comedy Central Stage. Her award winning series "Friends on a Bench" was featured at Hollyshorts LA, Chicago Comedy Film Festival and the Austin Comedy Film Festival.
AnnaJane (AJ) Edmonds is an award-winning producer, director and actor working in Los Angeles and Toronto with over 15 years of experience in the live-action film, documentary, and commercial industry. She began performing at the age of 7 on stage as the Barrister Munchkin and has been chasing the thrill of that role ever since. She has appeared in feature films and shorts, as well as commercials across Canada and USA.
Rebecca Marquardt is an actor, filmmaker, and musician from Texas who studied improv, comedy, and every other subject she could cover in Chicago (Second City, iO, The Annoyance). She toured the country as the emcee of Odd Squad, LIVE!, based on the Emmy-winning PBS show for kids and her a cappella covers on a looper have millions of views online. Her debut short film Boifriend (2023) won several awards and played at over 15 film festivals.
