Disability Information Session

Busting the Myths About Home & Living
Home & Living Series โ€“ Tasmania | Session 1 of 4

Navigating NDIS Home & Living supports can feel confusing especially when it comes to understanding Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).

This session is ideal for people who are new to SDA or just starting to explore NDIS Home & Living options. It is designed to break down common misconceptions, explain how SIL and SIL and SDA works, and empower people with disability and their supporters to make informed choices about housing and supports.

What this session will cover

  • What SIL is and what it isnโ€™t
  • What SDA is and how it differs from SIL
  • How SIL and SDA can work together
  • Common myths and misunderstandings (and the reality)
  • Choice and control in Home & Living decisions
  • Who is involved in Home & Living planning
  • How supports can change as needs and goals change

Who should attend

  • People with disability exploring Home & Living options
  • Families, carers and advocates
  • Support Coordinators
  • Allied health professionals
  • Anyone supporting someone to navigate SIL or SDA

What this session is (and isnโ€™t)

โœ” Practical, plain-language information
โœ” Participant-centred and choice-focused
โœ” Suitable for people at any stage of their Home & Living journey

โœ” Network opportunity

โœ– Not a sales pitch
โœ– Not provider-specific
โœ– No pressure or obligations
