Calling All the Monsters

Calling All the Monsters is a game inspired by the ‘Monster High’ universe. Experience a highschool dance through the eyes of a teenage monster, with all the ups and downs of growing up and trying to find yourself.

Being a monster is great! And the fact that your school is dedicated entirely to monsters like you? You couldn’t be happier! But…sometimes it’s rough being a monster. Sometimes your reflection doesn’t show how you really feel inside. Humans have it easy, they’re the default, they don’t have to hide in the shadows like you do. When your head hits the pillow at night you wonder if life would be easier if you were just like them.

Tonight’s dance is an opportunity to form your own community, to confront that voice in your head that wishes you weren’t so different. At the end of the day, what makes you different is what makes you you. Be Yourself. Be Unique. Be a Monster.

This larp is an allegory for the queer youth experience. You do not need to be queer to play.

Players will portray characters going to an all monster highschool. Each character is a different type of monster (vampire, werewolf, cryptid, merfolk, etc). Throughout the LARP players will dance, mingle, and confide in one another. The goal is that each character will come to terms with their insecurities and feel proud to be a monster by the end of the dance.

Conversation based larp, with music and dancing provided to fully represent a school dance setting. Dancing is not required.

A short workshop will occur beforehand to go over safety mechanics, intended tone, and an opportunity to negotiate character relationships.

Knowledge of the Monster High universe not required! Setting is purely inspired by it and all relevant setting information will be included in your sheets.

Costuming heavily encouraged, you’ll be playing a monster at a dance! Go all out!

Content Warnings

Monsters, queer allegory, dealing with insecurity/wanting to change who you are, human bigotry regarding monsters (backstory)

(While many characters grapple with self-acceptance the overall tone of the game will be finding a sense of community and being proud of who you are.)
