About This Event

Black History Breakfast Lecture Series is a family based program to feed the body and mind with a continental breakfast and Black history.

SPECIAL NOTE (Location Update): This event will take place at the Denver Heights Community Center (Carver Library is currently closed for renovation).

On Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 10:30 AM, the Friends of the Carver presents the Black History Breakfast Lecture Series. This family-based program is designed to feed the body and mind with a continental breakfast and an uplifting presentation on Black history and the Black experience. The Friends of the Carver and the Carver Library invite families and the community to come enjoy a light breakfast while learning and reflecting together.

Guest Speaker: Mr. Cary Clack
We are honored to welcome Mr. Cary Clack, a respected San Antonio journalist, author, and community leader. Born and raised in San Antonio, he is a graduate of St. Gerard High School and earned a B.A. in Political Science from St. Mary’s University (1985). He also served as a Scholar-Intern at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, where he studied nonviolence and wrote CNN commentaries for Coretta Scott King.

Mr. Clack became a longtime voice at the San Antonio Express-News, making history as the first Black member of the Editorial Board and the city’s first Black metro columnist. His work has appeared in the New York Times and major Texas publications, and he is the author of Clowns and Rats Scare Me and More Finish Lines to Cross. He has earned multiple Texas Associated Press Managing Editors awards, was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters, and continues to uplift Black voices through his writing and leadership.
