BIG LIGHT - Printing Photographic Images with Gum Arabic Transfer

To celebrate the launch of BIG LIGHT, Merseyway Workshop's brand new photographic darkroom, we are hosting an exciting series of photographic and thematic workshops, made possible with support from UKSPF.

In this printmaking workshop, artist Jeni Nuttall will demonstrate gum arabic transfer, also known as paper lithography.

Gum arabic transfer is a printmaking technique which uses a solution derived from the sap of Acacia trees to transfer photocopies onto paper. The result is a set of photographic prints with a distressed or aged appearance.

Before the workshop, you will need to email us (info@merseywayworkshop.com) by Wednesday 14th January with a black and white image of your choice that you would like to make prints of. Best results are found with high contrast images with fewer mid-tones. Images will print in reverse so you may want to flip the design.

The workshop will take place between 2-5PM.

This process uses ink, which can stain clothes. We have aprons but please do consider wearing clothes that you don't mind getting messy.

Spots on this workshop are limited. Please only book a ticket to this event if you are available and committed to attending the event. In the event that you are no longer able to attend, we ask that you let us know with as much notice as possible so that we are able to transfer your ticket to somebody else, rather than your spot going to waste.

This workshop contributes to a programme of events running alongside Amoeba's exhibition at Stockroom, launching on 29th January.
