Bats and Biodiversity: Discover Alne Wood at Dusk

Step into the heart of Alne Wood Park for an evening celebrating the rich wildlife that calls this woodland home. As we follow a gentle circular route through the trees and open grassland, we’ll uncover the biodiversity that makes this site so special — from ancient woodland plants to the creatures that thrive in its varied habitats.This event is not suitable for dogs and places are limited.

Along the way, you’ll hear about the management and wildlife surveys helping us care for this landscape and learn how these efforts support the Forest’s wider conservation work.

As daylight fades, we’ll pause in one of the open spaces to watch and listen for bats emerging to hunt. Using bat detectors, we’ll identify the species recorded here and, if the weather is kind, enjoy seeing their acrobatic flights across the twilight sky.

Please bring a torch (head torches or those with a red setting are ideal) to help guide your way, and if you have your own bat detector, you’re welcome to bring it along.
