About This Event

We are delighted to invite you to a very special Halifax Civic Trust private event this March — and numbers are strictly limited.
Your chance to see and learn more about some of the wonderful objects not usually on display in a small group with your personal guides.
Of special interest to Halifax Civic Trust is the extensive collection of Soil Hill Pottery housed in both Bankfield Museum and Shibden Hall .This collection of 20 items which was formally part of the Peter Strong Collection was in 2002 transferred to the Halifax Civic Trust and is currently held in trust.
Major internal redecoration and renovation work currently under way is expected to be completed before our visit.
Bankfield Museum , a beautiful grade 2 listed historic house, notable since 1887 as a local museum telling the story of Halifax and Calderdale including the history of the Duke of Wellington Regiment and housing the popular textile gallery . Also opening is the planned display entitled “Fashion Extreme”.
The house was bought by Colonel Edward Ackroyd , mill owner, philanthropist and M.P in 1838 for his fiancé Elizabeth Fearby of York.
Join us for an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience at Bankfield Museum, where we’ll uncover fascinating collections not normally on public display.
This private tour will include:
✨ Access to hidden areas of the museum
🏺 Viewing of the remarkable Soil Hill pots
👀 Insight into artefacts rarely seen by visitors
☕ Refreshments included
The Soil Hill pots are believed to have belonged to three generations of the Button family, dating from the late 1700s— a rare and important glimpse into Halifax’s local heritage.
To ensure a high-quality experience, we will split into two small groups, allowing closer viewing and discussion.
The museum will be closed to the public at the time of our visit.Parking is free.
