About This Event

Join publisher Scott McIntyre for a 50-year look at Douglas & McIntyre and why the craft of physical books still matters in a digital world.

At this upcoming Alcuin event at the Vancouver Public Library, legendary publisher Scott McIntyre will offer a deeply personal retrospective of a career spanning nearly 50 years at the heart of the Canadian literary scene. As the force behind Douglas & McIntyre, he will trace the evolution of one of the country's leading independent publishing houses, sharing behind-the-scenes anecdotes concerning industry icons and celebrated authors. More than a mere history lesson, the talk serves as a passionate defence of the physicality of books—emphasizing why craftsmanship in paper, binding, and design remains a vital tribute to the written word even in an increasingly digital age.

Admission is free and open to all. Seating is first-come-first-serve and limited to 80, with some standing room available. While you may RSVP for the email reminder here, please note that tickets wont be required for entry.

The event starts at 6:30 pm on April 30 at the Montalbano Family Theatre, Level 8, Vancouver Public Library (Central Branch).
